This volume is a detailed analysis of all those Midland Railway tank engine designs which eventually reached the LMS. These locomotives are predominantly from the Johnson and later periods plus a few of the older types which enjoyed a long life. The coverage is generally confined to the Midland's red engine period and concentrates on the many and various changes to their external appearance. As with others in the same series, the book is profusely illustrated.
